The planting depth is 3 times the height of the bulb. If you plant the tulip bulbs before October, there is a risk of frost damage because the tulips will emerge too early in the spring. The tulip bulb needs some time to form roots before the first frost comes. The best planting time for Dordogne tulip bulbs are the months of October and November. This group has a longer flowering time than most other tulips. The elegant flowers on long stems bloom from early May. The tulip season always ends with a splash with these late-blooming tulips. Single-flowered late tulips are first class cut flowers. Only late tulips come in almost all colors, including a few unusual varieties. The only late tulips and the Darwin varieties are the largest tulips in the entire range. The group contains a wide variety of flower shapes, although Viridiflora tulips and Fringed (or Crispa) tulips are placed in a different group. Combining these groups resulted in the group of single-flowered late tulips. These old-fashioned names are no longer used. The group includes the tulips better known as Darwin, Broeiers and Cottage tulips. The Dordogne tulip bulb belongs to the group “Only late tulips”. Due to this height, it is somewhat sensitive to wind. The large flower stands on a dark stem of about 60 cm. As flowering progresses, the color becomes more orange.
